Tips For Catching Rainbow Trout

On of the most popular species of trout to attempt to catch is the rainbow trout and below I will reveal a few tips that will help anyone to catch more rainbow trout the next time that they go fishing. Truth be told, catching rainbow trout isn't that hard, but it becomes difficult is when you want to consistently catch fish that are larger than average. The average rainbow is between eight and twelve inches, but if these tips are added to your repertoire, you will no doubt be catching rainbow trout that are larger than twelve inches consistently.

The first tip is to make sure that you are using the correct size gear, meaning you're rod, reel, and fishing line. Most "rookie" trout fishermen make the mistake of using trout fishing gear that's entirely too heavy. You want to make sure that you are using an ultralight rod and reel and your reel needs to be spooled with fishing line that's two, four, or six pound test (at the heaviest). Just this one simple tip will increase your bite rates dramatically and the lighter the line that you use, the more bite you will receive.

Next we have the technique that you employ. One mistake that people who fish for rainbow trout make is not being proficient in specific rainbow trout techniques. This means that you need to spend some time learning and practicing specific techniques. The more proficient you become at a specific technique, the more rainbows you will catch, it's as simple as that. Some of the most effective rainbow trout techniques would include, drift fishing live worms, drifting small spinners , using a casting bubble to fish artificial flies, and of course "still fishing" with the very effective trout bait known as Powerbait .

Finally we have the most underutilized tip that there is when it comes to catching rainbow trout (or any species of fish for that matter) and that is paying attention to the moon and planning your fishing trips accordingly. The moon has an amazing impact of whether or not fish will be feeding and it comes in two ways; the phase that the moon is in and the time of the day when the moon is rising or setting. Focus your fishing efforts on the 3-4 day period that brackets a new moon and the 2-3 hour window of time that brackets the moon rising or setting. A simple Google search for the term 'moon rise' will provide you with all of the data that you need in relation to the moon rise/set.

I have personally been using these exact tips for catching rainbow trout for more than 20 years and am confident that they will be as fruitful for you as they have been for me. And never forget that the more time that you can spend on the water, the more effective you will become as a trout fisherman, so get out there and wet a line as much as you can.
